What makes this Tutorial especially versatile is that you can take it in whichever direction you prefer. Acrylic painters can simply complete the entire painting in acrylics, while oil painters can use the finished acrylic stage as an underpainting and continue painting over it with oils. Or, as Jerry demonstrates in this lesson, you can combine the two—leaving much of the acrylic painting visible while using water-mixable oils for selected finishing details and highlights, adding the richer, deeper color, luminous quality, and beautiful surface appearance that artists have long valued in oil paintings.
